Tips for a Healthy Summer
At Accountable Healthcare, we care deeply about our healthcare professionals. As we embrace the summer season, here are a few tips to keep you healthy and safe:
- Sun Protection: Use shade, wide-brimmed hats, and clothing that covers your skin. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 15. Reapply as needed to stay protected from harmful UV rays.
- Insect Protection: Prevent mosquito and tick bites using insect repellent and wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants. Apply sunscreen first, then insect repellent. Check your clothing, body, and pets for ticks indoors.
- Eye Safety: Wear sunglasses that block at least 99% of UVA and UVB rays. This can help prevent cataracts and wrinkles around the eyes.
- Healthy Eating: Support your muscles, strengthen bones, and boost immunity with healthy foods. Summer is perfect for adding fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet. Every day, enjoy a cup of mixed berries—blackberries, blueberries, or strawberries—to load up on antioxidants and fiber, which can help prevent tissue damage and reduce the risk of age-related illnesses and some cancers.
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water (fluoridated tap, unsweetened bottled, or sparkling) instead of sugary or alcoholic drinks to stay hydrated and reduce calorie intake. Add pieces of fruit to your water for extra flavor.
- Physical Activity: Summer is ideal for outdoor physical activities. Enjoy stronger bodies, better sleep, and reduced anxiety/stress levels with activities like biking, walking in nature, swimming, or pickleball—a fun game for all ages.
- Have Fun: Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the beautiful summer weather!
Stay safe and make the most of this vibrant season!
