In our Behind the Scenes with Accountable series, we highlight the people who make a difference in the lives of our clinicians, clients, and colleagues. This week, we are proud to feature Leilani Santos, a beloved recruiter with our Local Nurse Staffing Division for the Northeast Zone. With eight years at Accountable, Leilani is not only a seasoned recruiter but also someone who finds joy in making connections and helping healthcare professionals find their place.

Leilani’s career in healthcare spans nearly twenty years, beginning in drug and alcohol rehabilitation and prevention before moving into home care, where she managed supervisors and focused on quality assurance. Eventually, her background in recruitment led her into healthcare staffing. What started as a new opportunity quickly became a calling. She discovered how much she enjoyed overcoming market challenges, making clients happy, and most of all, supporting talented clinicians in securing positions where they could thrive.

At Accountable, she recruits qualified nurses and allied professionals for contracts nationwide. While the role comes with challenges, the reward of seeing a healthcare professional land the right role makes it all worthwhile. Customer satisfaction is central to her work, and she values the chance to create lasting, positive experiences for both clinicians and clients.

Outside of work, Leilani’s Chicago roots shine brightly. She loves walking along the Riverwalk, spending time in Lincoln Park, dancing, and exploring the city’s diverse food scene. Her education in psychology at DePaul University has guided her throughout her career in customer service, while her bilingual fluency in English and Spanish allows her to connect more deeply with the communities she serves.

Leilani also has a creative and unique side that makes her stand out. A lifelong fan of The Wizard of Oz, she treasures Chicago’s Oz Park and the yellow brick road tribute to author L. Frank Baum. She is also a huge admirer of Michael Jackson, and once even performed as him in high school productions of “Thriller” and “Beat It.” These personal passions add color to her story and reflect the energy she brings into her professional life.

For Leilani, the best part of her job is simple: making people happy. Whether it is helping a healthcare professional secure a new role or receiving positive feedback from a client, these moments remind her why she loves what she does. She also values being part of a culturally diverse company that embraces uniqueness and makes everyone feel included.
